My Favorite Conservation Organizations

As most know, and even if you don’t, I work for a conservation organization and I have a profound love of conserving animals. Although I love conserving our planet and the animals and plants on it – there are just a few animals that have a special place in my heart — so I’m sharing how we can all help them!

WOODLAND PARK ZOO: LIVING NORTHWEST | NORTHWEST CARNIVORE PROJECT

This one is a given – because well, it’s grizzly bears! Woodland Park Zoo has over 41 conservation projects and this is my favorite. I Love love love grizzly bears and the pacific northwest. This project means a lot to me.

Did you know a Grizzly bear can run up to 35 -40 mph? Crazy huh?

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

“Under the Living Northwest umbrella, Woodland Park Zoo’s Senior Conservation Fellow, Dr. Robert Long, will be expanding the zoo’s wildlife science and conservation focus to include our Pacific Northwest mammalian carnivores (e.g. wolves, fishers, wolverines, cougars, black bears, grizzly bears). Our focus will be on evaluating critical conservation questions relevant to carnivores in the Pacific Northwest, and then developing field research projects to help answer these questions.”  -WPZ’s website

WOLF HAVEN INTERNATIONAL

Another close to home conservation organization – this one however is bringing back wolf species from the brink of extinction. They are home to about 200 wolves and it’s very private. They only do private tours for members.

The mission of Wolf Haven International is to conserve and protect wolves and their habitat. They rescue and provide sanctuary for displaced, captive-born wolves, offer educational programs about wolves and the value of all wildlife, promote wolf restoration in historical ranges and work to protect our remaining wild wolves and their habitat.

ORCA CONSERVANCY

Here’s my #3 pick– Those beautiful porpoises that live in the Puget Sound. They are so iconic to Western Washington.
